Kristin Billerbeck (Advice for Novelists, Part 69)

Here's today's entry in our Advice for Novelists series. I've asked authors, agents, editors and publicists their response to the question:

"If you could say one thing to aspiring novelists, what would you say?"

The lovely and talented Kristin Billerbeck responds:

I would say, check your ego at the door and listen for what you need to hear -- but trust your critiquers and your instincts. If you don't, it will do you no good. Okay, this is more than one thing, but I would say also to really work your idea until it sparkles! Don't give them a reason to say no.
